Yued Heritage Protection Agreement signed

We are pleased to announce that BLT Energy has signed the Yued Heritage Protection Agreement (“YHPA”) with the Yued Aboriginal Corporation (“YAC”) for the development of our Red Gully BESS.

BLT Energy Founder and CEO Francis Ip said: “We believe the signing of the YHPA is the beginning of our relationship with the Yued people.

The majority of our founding team grew up in Perth, and we have set it as a mission for us to develop our renewable projects in a respectful manner, by carefully considering the impact they may have to local people and their culture.

We look forward to working with the team at YAC to ensure we minimise and properly address any potential cultural heritage impact as we continue our development process for the Red Gully BESS.”

In addition to following the protocol as prescribed in the YHPA, BLT Energy will also continue to work with YAC with the aim to develop a meaningful benefit sharing program including contracting and employment opportunities for Yued people.

Introducing Red Gully BESS

We are pleased to introduce Red Gully BESS, our proposed Battery Energy Storage System located in the Shire of Gingin. The Project will support Western Australia’s transition to a cleaner, more reliable energy future by storing electricity and delivering it when it is needed most. In doing so, it will strengthen grid stability, ease peak network demand, and enable greater integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.

The Project is under development with a total capacity of 800MW / 4,800MWh and will be delivered in phases. Phase 1 will provide 400MW / 2,400MWh of storage capacity. Uniquely located next to Western Power’s Regans Terminal which is due for completion in 2027, the Project will strongly complement the State of Western Australia’s Clean Energy Link – North transmission network upgrade program.

We are targeting commissioning in 2028/2029. Once operational, Red Gully BESS will play an important role in strengthening grid reliability as state-owned coal-fired power stations are scheduled to retire by 2030, while also supporting Western Australia’s decarbonisation objectives.

Over the past two years, we have engaged with targeted stakeholders and are extending engagement to the wider community to share information, listen to feedback and inform ongoing project development.
